Green Pharmacy: the power of plants in home treatment

Humanity has been treated with herbs for millennia before the invention of synthetic molecules. Nature has created a colossal laboratory, where there is a root or leaf for each disease. Today, interest in herbal medicine is experiencing a renaissance: people are tired of the side effects of pills and are looking for milder, natural ways to restore health.
However, "natural" does not always mean "safe." Plants are powerful biochemical factories, and they need to be treated with respect and knowledge. Properly brewed tea can relieve inflammation better than expensive powder, but a mistake in the dosage of a poisonous plant can cost your health. A green pharmacy requires a competent approach.
Chamomile, mint and sage: classics of the genre
These three plants should be in every home. Chamomile is a universal soldier: it soothes nerves, relieves stomach cramps and is an excellent antiseptic for gargling. Its gentle action is suitable even for children. Peppermint is not only refreshing, but also helps with nausea, headaches and gallbladder problems.
Sage is a powerful anti—inflammatory agent, especially effective for gum and throat problems. However, you need to be careful with it: it contains phytohormones and is contraindicated in some conditions. These herbs are good because they act in a complex way, not "we heal one thing, we cripple another," but they harmonize the work of the systems.
Natural antibiotics and immunomodulators
When the cold season comes, it's not necessary to immediately grab onto heavy artillery. Echinacea purpurea has long been proven effective in stimulating the immune system. Tea with ginger and lemon accelerates blood flow and has an antiviral effect due to gingerol.
Garlic and onions contain phytoncides that kill bacteria on the spot, although their social "flavor" limits their use.
- Willow bark is a natural source of salicylic acid (aspirin), reduces fever.
Raspberries (especially the leaves) work as a diaphoretic.
- Licorice perfectly dilutes sputum when coughing.
Using these gifts of nature at the beginning of the disease often allows the body to cope with the infection on its own.
Collection and storage rules
In order for the green pharmacy to work, the raw materials must be of high quality. Herbs collected by the side of the road will cause more damage due to heavy metals. The ideal option is to collect it yourself in ecologically clean places at the right time (usually in dry weather, when the dew has gone down).
Drying is also an important step. Plants do not like direct sunlight, they need shade and ventilation. It is better to store supplies in paper bags or glass jars, but not in polyethylene, where the grass can suffocate and become moldy. The shelf life of most herbs is 1-2 years, after which they lose their healing properties.
Returning to the roots and using the forces of nature wisely allows you to maintain health gently, effectively and without unnecessary chemicals.
